Designing Temporal Ecologies Symposium
Designing Temporal Ecologies
3rd International Temporal Design Symposium and Workshop
As part of the third edition of the international Temporal Design symposium and workshop, this hybrid event will reflect on the role of design practice in revealing, intervening, and potentially supporting manifestations of time in the natural world.
Time is often defined within narratives of temporal acceleration and personal subjectivity, which have been equally contested through movements such as slow design, slow technology, and temporal design. As we expand our notions of design practice to designing for, with and through the more-than-human, it is time to start reflecting on the impact of the ways in which designers understand, interpret, and influence the temporalities of the natural world through their practice.
Symposium: 7th February, 1.30 – 5.00pm
The symposium will be divided in three panels, which will into different approaches of designing for, with and through temporal ecologies. Each panel will have 3-4 guest designers who would give a brief overview of their work (7-10 min), followed by discussion and questions from the audience.
Panel I: Designing for Temporal Ecologies,
with Maike Gebker & Susanne Wieland, Hannah Imlach, Markéta Dolejšová, Elaine Gan
Panel II: Designing through Temporal Ecologies,
with Raphael Kim, Carolina Ramirez Figueroa, Kuang-Yi Ku*
Panel III: Designing with Temporal Ecologies,
with Sara Heitlinger, Gizem Oktay, Minha Lee & Ron Wakkary*, Deepta Sateesh*
It will be a hybrid symposium with limited seats at G.07 at the Informatics Forum, 10 Crichton Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9AB.
