Toward Human-Centred Co-Creativity with Technology

Recent advancements in AI technology for content generation are changing the dynamics of control over the creation of artefacts between humans and machines more profoundly than other technological tools used by artists in their practice thus far. Emerging generative AI models can be a helpful assistant to creators, as they can be a source of inspiration and offload the most repetitive and monotonous aspects of the creative process. Yet, they might also diminish the enjoyment that users derive from other, more engaging parts of the process. In this talk, Caterina will share her research on two dimensions of co-creativity between humans and machines: embodiment and agency. She will question how embodiment affects perceptions of creativity in artistic experiences, to then conclude by introducing her ongoing research, which aims to enable users to customise the trade-off between agency and automation in collaborative creative processes with technology.
