Synthetic media generated by AI is blurring the lines between representation and reality and making it harder for us to tell fact from fiction. Like most technology, this can be used for beneficial or harmful purposes. It could enable instant translation of important news into multiple languages or into sign language – but it also allows the generation of deepfakes that fuel mis- and dis-information and trick us into doubting the truth. Come along to this interactive session and help our news and media experts from the BBC grapple with the disruptive impact of AI on journalism and explore opportunities to make synthetic media work in the public interest. You’ll get to hone your journalistic instincts and flex your creative muscles while helping shape the future of news.
Collaborators: BBC Research & Development and BBC User Experience & Design teams
