Thursday TalkResearch Seminar: Sarah Bennett
Designing Ethically for AI
Sarah Bennett, PhD Student Design Informatics
Thursday 21st March 4pm Inspace, 1 Crichton Street
Artificial intelligence is now a household phrase, one which conjures up a myriad of perspectives and interpretations, from being a saviour to a threat. Conversely, AI systems have much potential to impact our own experiences of the world; this talk explores some of the ethical impacts of this, and how designers of AI systems navigate the moral decisions that are weaved throughout their work. This discussion will be illustrated by some of the projects Sarah has encountered over the course of her research.
Sarah Bennett is a PhD student in Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, researching the role of moral values in the design of symbiotic human-AI systems. Her background is in Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence, with experience working in Data Analytics in the NHS.
