March 2021 – February 2024

The Healthier Working Lives program, led by Edinburgh University and funded by UKRI, is dedicated to evaluating the challenges and opportunities within the workforce aged over 50 in the care sector. Our overarching goal is to discover strategies that promote healthier work experiences and aging for senior care workers, thereby advancing their careers, ensuring consistent user care, and enhancing overall well-being.

The care sector faces significant challenges across various dimensions, making it imperative to cultivate a professional, respected, and confident workforce, while also implementing robust workforce planning and support mechanisms. Right from its inception, the program is committed to transforming aspects of the care sector through collaboration with care workers. This collaborative approach will stimulate intrapreneurship, leading to the creation of innovative products and services with widespread impact. Our aspiration is for the program’s legacy to endure well beyond its current duration.

The Healthier Working Lives for the Care Workforce initiative is scheduled for a three-year duration, spanning from March 2021 to March 2024. Edinburgh University is collaborating with partners including Codebase, Creative Venue, Legal and General, Reading University, and Scottish Care.
