Billy Franks, PhD Student

Billy Franks is a first year PhD candidate in Design Informatics funded by the SGSAH AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award. His research focuses on the needs of creative practitioners seeking to develop technology-led and data-driven businesses. In collaboration with CodeBase, one of Europe’s fastest-growing technology incubators, Billy aims to co-design and evaluate a “digital commons” of community-owned resources to support creative practitioners in technology-led spaces. Billy’s supervisors are Dr. Susan Lechelt and Prof. Melissa Terras.

Billy holds a BA in Human Geography from Durham University and an MFA in Graphic Design from the University of Edinburgh.
